Friends of the Flint River Trail
The Greater Flint Health Coalition has a grant with the RMF to carry out social marketing and outreach about the Flint River Trail. They have worked closely with the Friends of the Flint River Trail on several projects. The Friends have organized cleanups each spring and from Mother’s Day in May to Columbus Day in October they lead bicycle rides along the Flint River Trail.
The rides begin at the Flint Farmers’ Market Sundays at 2pm and Thursdays at 6pm. The rides on the paved trail go up one side the Flint River and return down the other, turning around at Bluebell Beach. The ride is 13 miles roundtrip and includes several rest breaks to enjoy the scenery. Occasionally the ride is extended to the town of Genesee, through the Genesee County Parks trails, so the group can get ice cream at Mrs. Smitty’s.
The rides are very successful, averaging about 20 per ride with as many as 60 on the beautiful Mother’s Day ride this year.
