Hours & Tour Types

APPLEWOOD IS NOW CLOSED FOR THE WINTER SEASON

We will reopen in May 2019.

Applewood offers a variety of tours during its open season from May through October:

GUIDED HOUSE TOURS
New! By popular demand, the First Floor Tour and the Behind the Scenes Tour have been combined into one interactive experience that takes visitors throughout three levels of the Mott family home. Explore all the main living spaces, step inside the master bedroom, check out the basement recreation area-including the bowling alley-and so much more!  Online reservations are free and are available here. Tours can accommodate no more than ten guests at a time.

This historic house can accommodate smaller-sized wheelchairs and strollers on the first floor only. For those who do not have house tour reservations, you can still explore the house (and gardens!) through our virtual tour – available as part of the exhibit in the garage and on our website here.

STROLLING HOUSE TOURS
Half-hour strolling tours of the first floor of the main house are available without reservations during our special event days ONLY on a first-come, first-served basis.

2018 event days with strolling tours:

  • May 3-6: Season Opening
  • May 13: Mother’s Day
  • June 17: Father’s Day
  • July 14: Be a Tourist in Your Home Town
  • July 19: Savor the Summer (event lasts from 4-8 p.m.)
  • August 4: Wet Paint Day
  • September 29: Fall Harvest Festival
  • October 27-28: Halloween in the Gardens

WALKING GARDEN TOURS
A free guided walking tour of the gardens is offered without reservations at noon during our regular open days. We’ll tell you where to meet when you arrive at Applewood. (Guests may always explore the grounds on their own.)

PLEASE NOTE: This is an outdoor walking tour with portions up and down hills and across lawns. An electric cart with limited seating may be available upon request for those with mobility challenges.

GROUP TOURS
We specialize in group tours! Let us customize an experience for your group of six people or more. Reservations must be made by phone, and booked at least two weeks in advance. Please call 810.396.3117.

See Field Trips & Educational Resources for more information about our offerings.
