Hours & Tour Types

PLEASE NOTE: In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Applewood will remain closed to the public for the 2020 season. We will be using this time of closure due to the coronavirus to complete several large-scale construction and renovation projects. Read more about them here.

We are committed to virtually sharing Applewood with our community. Visit our Calendar and our Facebook page to learn more.

We will be sure to post updates here and on our Facebook page when we are able to resume reservations for tours and field trips and welcome visitors to Applewood once again.

Explore three levels of the Mott family home. Available by reservation only during our open season, May–October. Due to limited space inside the home, eight or fewer guests are permitted per tour. (Due to tour capacity, we use a wait list. Those arriving late to their scheduled tour may be asked to reschedule.)

Guided house tours are usually held at 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. See our Frequently Asked Questions about tours.

The historic house can accommodate smaller-sized wheelchairs and strollers on the first floor only. For those who do not have house tour reservations, you can still explore the house and gardens through our virtual tour—available as part of the exhibit in the garage and on our website.

Self-guided tours are held on Sundays without reservations during our open season, May-October, from 1 p.m.–4 p.m. only.  This is a self-guided tour of the Mott family home, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Guides will be on hand to answer questions.

A guided walking tour of the gardens and grounds is offered without reservations at 12:30 p.m. each open day during the season. The garden tour begins at the Visitor Services desk, where you will meet your guide. (Guests may always explore the grounds on their own when Applewood is open.)

PLEASE NOTE: This is an outdoor walking tour with portions up and down hills and across lawns.

We specialize in group tours during our open season! Let us customize an experience for your group of nine people or more. Reservation requests can be made online or by calling 810.280.7313.

PLEASE NOTE: Group Tour reservations MUST be booked one month in advance.

See the Field Trips & Educational Resources page for more information about our offerings.
