Where do I park?
Parking is available in the Applewood Parking Lot (south of the intersection of Longway and Kearsley) and at the Flint Cultural Center.
I have a house tour reservation. Should I arrive early?
Please arrive at least ½ hour ahead of your scheduled time to allow for parking and check-in. An exhibit, The Motts of Applewood, is available to enjoy before or after your tour.
What do I do when I arrive?
You may enter the estate from the Kearsley Street gate closest to the Flint Cultural Center,(our Front Entrance) or the gate across from the Applewood Parking Lot (our Visitor Entrance). You’ll be welcomed by a greeter who can answer any questions and direct you to the tour check-in location. You may also view a short Welcome Video introducing you to the Applewood story.
How many people can take a group tour?
Group tours of the house or grounds can vary in size, but require a minimum of six people and must be scheduled in advance by phone.
How long are the house tours?
Tours take approximately 1 hour. An exhibit, The Motts of Applewood, is available to enjoy before or after your tour. We also encourage you to explore the grounds and check out the new exhibits in the historic barn and chicken coop.
Is there an ADA/Family restroom?
Yes, it’s located near the Visitor Services area at the garage of the main house. In addition, there are three portable ADA restrooms: one near the east Visitor Entrance gate (near the Friendly Frog), one on the front driveway near the Kearsley Street Front Entrance entrance (near the gatehouse), and one near the barn.
Are wheelchairs available?
Yes, we have two wheelchairs that visitors can borrow.
May I take a stroller on a house tour?
Large strollers must be left at the Visitor Services tour check-in, located at the garage of the main house. However, two small strollers are available to borrow during your tour.
Is water available?
Yes, water coolers are available to refill water bottles to use while on site. Visitors can bring their own bottles, or pick up one of ours to keep! Please reuse, recycle, and reduce litter!
Do I need a reservation to tour the house or gardens?
During our regular open days, reservations are required for House Tours. Since tour group sizes are limited, we cannot guarantee that walk-ins will be able to join a House Tour. Make your House Tour reservation here. Or take a Virtual Tour of the house here.
During our special events half-hour strolling tours of the first floor of the main house are available on a first come, first served basis, not by reservation. For a complete listing of our special events, please check our calendar here.
During our regular open days, guided Garden Tours are available at noon, no reservation needed. Visitors can also stroll the grounds on their own whenever Applewood is open. Or take a Virtual Tour of the gardens here.
