October at Applewood: Flower Preservation & Textile Care

Event Details

Join us for October at Applewood every Saturday to learn about how and why we care for the grounds, house, and collections at Applewood. Learn new skills you can use at home or in your community as we explore how caring for our yards and gardens or preserving our history are important forms of civic participation. Drop in anytime from noon to 3 p.m.

Flower Preservation: Dried flowers and other plants make excellent keepsakes from the summer season to enjoy year-round. We will also talk about ways to incorporate dehydrated flowers, herbs, and even fruit in seasonal decor for upcoming holidays.

Textile Care: It’s time to pull those cozy sweaters out of storage! Find out how to properly clean and care for your warm woolen wear and pack up your summer gear for the season. We will also discuss safe washing and drying techniques and the best way to extend the life of your clothes.

Please note: All October at Applewood sessions are outdoors. Come prepared for the elements. Some programs may be canceled or adjusted in case of poor weather. Face masks are recommended for participants over age 2.

Applewood will be a collection site for items needed at the Franklin Avenue Mission for the remainder of our open season, through the end of October. Items specifically in need are children’s undergarments and socks, and infant items. We will have donation bins at each entrance gate for anyone who chooses to donate during our open days. Thank you!
