Our goal is to help residents of north Flint neighborhoods create and sustain opportunities to contribute and thrive.

North Flint, Michigan

We define north Flint as everything within the city limits north of the Flushing Road/5th Avenue/Longway Boulevard corridor.

We realize there is tremendous need in our community as well as limited resources, and we want to allocate our resources to have the greatest impact on Flint.

Based on our research and reflection – including discussions with community leaders and grantee partners – we concluded that a focused, place-based approach to philanthropy is the best way for us to serve the Flint community. It has been demonstrated that focusing on a defined area with significant needs while engaging residents and building partnerships can result in increased impact. To that end, we use all of our tools — including Applewood — in service of our goal of helping north Flint residents create and sustain opportunities to contribute and thrive.

“We are focusing on north Flint because it’s the area in our community where we believe our efforts can make the biggest difference.”

The area that we call north Flint includes both of the areas traditionally known in Flint as the north side and the east side. The southern boundary of north Flint is the Flushing Road/5th Avenue/Longway Boulevard corridor. The west, north, and east boundaries are the Flint city limits. Please note that we consider unsolicited proposals only for projects that serve north Flint residents.
